Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the supporting and rapid rotation of a rotary shaft even if its diameter is not uniform, by nipping the rotary shaft between a pair of flexible members and ejecting a pressurized gas through the inlet ports and inlet cavities of the flexible members.
CONSTITUTION: A rotary shaft 1 is nipped between a pair of band-like flexible members 2a, 2b. The sides 3a, 3b, 4a, 4b of both the ends of the flexible members 2a, 2b are located in contact with each other and secured on a housing 5. The flexible members are provided with inlet cavities 6a, 6b, inlet ports 7a, 7b therefore and orifices 9a, 9b for connecting the inlet cavities to faces 8a, 8b on the rotary shaft 1. As a result, the rotary shaft can be supported by the identical flexible members 2a, 2b and highly accurate working and mounting are not needed even if the diameter of the rotary shaft is not uniform.
