Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to return to an ideal operating condition again even if a hollow cavity is produced and a melting condition is depreciated in a melting furnace by a method wherein a plurality of nozzles are provided and steam is blown therethrough against the hollow cavity.
CONSTITUTION: When a hollow cavity 4 is produced in a melting furnace 1, combustion gas is blown up through the hollow cavity 4. Accordingly, the gas with high temperature is discharged through a gas drain pipe 3. Then, valves 9, 9 are opened and steam is ejected into the furnace through nozzles 5, 5. The steam stirs refuse layers by a physical impact force. The steam is reduced by contacting with a flame in the hollow cavity. This is end thermic reaction, therefore, temperature in the hollow cavity is decreased, thereby, the flame in the hollow cavity portion is extinguished a little while later and combustion is stopped. Pressure is reduced after the flame is extinguished and the hollow cavity is collapsed because of a stiring force of the steam and decrease of the pressure. Thereafter, refuse layers therearound are protruded forward into the cavity 4 and the cavity is filled up soon.
