Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a pinholeless, continuous, and long metal foil by performing pulsative electrolysis operation one or more times or with downtime during the operation at an optional time during the period from the beginning of electrolysis to the completion of desired metal foil.
CONSTITUTION: In the manufacture of the well-known metal foils in which a metal roll, a resin film with performed metal thin layer, or a metal foil (sheet) is used as a medium, pulsative electrolysis is performed one or more times under the following conditions. At an optional time during the period from the beginning of electrolysis to the completion of desired metal foil, the flow of current is stopped for 1msW 10sec and then current is flowed for 1msW5sec for pulsative electrolysis. Thus, metal ion is supplied by diffusion to electrolyte near the cathode during the current interruption period, so that the concentration of metal ions becomes high remarkably during the subsequent electrolysis period, thus permitting the use of high current density and also the amount of plating nucleus to increase as well as lessening pinholes to the minimum.
