Abstract
PURPOSE: To shorten the reaction time in the liquid phase oxidation of isopropylbenzene to α, α, α', α'-tetramethyl-phenylenebiscarbinol, etc., useful as a raw material of synthetic resin, etc., by using a specific organic peroxide as a reaction initiator.
CONSTITUTION: α, α, α', α'-Tetramethyl-phenylenebiscarbinol and α, α-dimethyl- isopropylphenylcarbinol are prepared by the liquid-phase oxidation of isopropylbenzene with oxygen gas or an oxygen-containing gas at a high temperature, in the presence of an alkali, using an organic peroxide such as cycloalkyl peroxyketal, alkyl peroxyester and alkyl peroxycarbonate as a reaction initiator.
USE: Raw material of various organic peroxides having benzene nucleus.
