Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture simply drill material with oil holes, by arranging oil-hole packing at prescribed places, where oil holes are formed later, in a hollow cylindrical capsule, and by filling the other place in the capsule with high speed steel powder, then by pressing by a hot hydrostaic press.
CONSTITUTION: At prescribed places, where oil holes are formed later in manufacture of a drill, in a hollow, cylindrical capsule 1 are arranged rod materials 2 made of, e.g., copper, copper alloy, or gray cast iron, which melt at a temp. lower than the hardening temp. of the drill and higher than the hot hydrostatic pressing temp. The other part in the capsule is filled with high speed steel powder 3 as drill material. In another case, pipes 4 made of material same as drill material are placed in the capsule and are filled with low-melting alloy of A1, Cu, or Pb, which has no affinity for the pipe 4, instead of above-described metallic rod. Drill mateiral with oil holes is manufactured simply by sintering the capsule with a hot hydrostatic press. The packing is made to melt and run off by heating to a temp. above the m.p. of the packing so as to form oil holes.
