Abstract

PURPOSE: In production of molten metal plated conductor to be used as wiring and leading in electronic devices, Ca-Cu alloy is effective in that the alloy has sufficient conductivity, softens in low-temperature molten bath and that even large wire diameter wire is soft enough to eliminate the need of softening processes.
CONSTITUTION: Copper alloy conductor essentially consisting of copper, containing 5 to 200 ppm of calcium is introduced into molten metal bath of tin, lead or alloy thereof, to produce metal plated conductor. The copper alloy will, if cold processed before plating so that surface reduction exceeds 95%, provide a remarkable relaxing effect of softening condition. For example, the conductor is easily softened under the condition of molten metal temperature between melting point and 250°C and immersion period of less than 5 seconds. Such condition is also preferred in that it will prevent the molten bath from deterioration.
