Abstract
PURPOSE:To effectively prevent the degradation of a photosensitive drum provided with a photosensitive layer containing selenium as a main component by flowing air between discharge electrode and discharge plate as well as between discharge electrode and drum surface. CONSTITUTION:1 is a photosensitive drum rotating in the arrow I direction, 2 a discharger opposing to the drum 1, 2A a discharge wire and 2b a discharge plate. The photosensitive drum 1 has a photosensitive layer composed primarily of selenium on its outside peripheral surface and the discharger 2, which is positioned in adjacency to the transfer region of the drum 1, is energized by AC voltage to remove the residual charges of the drum 1 after transfer. A thorugh-hole 3 is formed in the discharge plate 2B and the spacing between the discharge wire 2A and discharge plate 2B is evacuated through the through-hole 3 by the suction mechanism provided in the copying mechine. This causes the air in the spaces therebetween to be pulled and wind passing said spacing to be produced. The air containing ozone or oxygen produced as a result of its decomposition is expelled from the space by said wind and fresh air is supplied from the surroundings, thus the zone concentration in the air in contact with the photosesitive layer is decreased.
