Abstract

PURPOSE: In a recovering device of tolylene diisocyanate, residues sticking on walls of the device is removed by contacting with a hot alkali solution in water, thus effectively recovering tolylene diisocyanate from by-products formed in the reaction between diaminotoluene and phosgen using relatively simple devices equipment.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of tar residue formed in the production of toylene diisocyanate from diaminotoluene and phosgen and tolylene diisocyanate (TDI) is continiuously fed into vacuum tube 2 heated at 250W350°C to distil TDI and separate the residue. Then the residue that is a high-viscosity liquid due to high temperature and does not stick on the heating pipe is sent with the vapor of TDI to solid separator 3 where the residue is solidified by cooling and the vapor of TDI is sent to condenser 4 where it is condensed and recovered. The residue sticking on the wall of equipment is cleaned by contacting with an alkali aqueous solution at 150W300°C under pressure.
