NEW MATERIAL:A novel enzyme inhibiting substance M-69: dark red powder; acidic substance having pKa of 4.85 in 75% methanol; molecular weight measured by equilibrium vapor pressure method, about 574; elemental analysis, C 66.95%, H 6.50%, N 2.44%, O 23.81%; color reaction, ferric chloride reaction, positive; optical rotation, -0.960 (1% concentration, methanol solution, cell length 10 cm), soluble to methanol, ethanol, acetone, chloroform, ethyl acetate; slightly soluble to benzene, ethyl ether; insoluble to hexane.
USE: The compound inhibits the activity of prolinehydroxylase and suppresses the growth of collagen.
PROCESS: M-96-producing microbials belonging to Chaetomium genus, e.g. Chaetomium aureum IFO 6544, are aerobically clutured, and produced M-96 is separated from the medium.
