Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform stable commutation by providing a transformer which supplies a base current answering to the collector current of a commutating transistor and that which supplies a reverse bias to a main thyrister.
CONSTITUTION: When a current is flowing to load Z with thyristor CR ignited, turning ON auxiliary transistor TrQC applies the voltage of control power supply Vc to the series circuit of windings N12 and N22 of transformers T1 and T2, the induced voltage of winding N21 of T2 supplies base current (iB) of commutating TrQM to turn On TrQM, and the sum of induced voltages of windings N11 and N21 of T1 and T2 supplies a reverse voltage to thyristor CR. As a result thyristor current (iCR) is commutated as collector current (ic) toward TrQM and afterward, TrQM commutates all current (iCR) while maintaining itself in the saturation state. In this case, stable commutation can be performed by automatically decreasing or increasing current (iB) via induced current (i2) of winding N12 corresponding to current (ic) and by decreasing a control current with a winding ratio between transformers T1 and T2 made large.
