Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a fluorescent substance having enhanced efficiency and considerably improved life characteristics, and made of Eu-activated rare earth elements oxide contg. Si or Al in a specific range to the oxide.
CONSTITUTION: The fluorescent substance is an improved version of red luminous Eu-activated rare earth elements oxide, Re2O3/Eu (Re: one or more out of Y, La, Ga and Lu). The initial lamp luminance of a fluorescent lamp using the substance and the luminance maintenance rate after lighting of 1000 hr can be improved remarkably by adding 10-5W 10-2 mol of Si to 1 mol of the substance as shown by the diagrams.
