Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a blackened film of stable grade suitable for parts such as shadow mask by pretreating iron material in an atmosphere of air under specific conditions to scatter and burn contaminants on the material surface prior to formation of the film under predetermined conditions. CONSTITUTION:Iron material such as shadow mask or inner shield material for a color picture tube is treated in an atmosphere of air at 250-400 deg.C for 5-30 min to scatter and burn contaminants such as press oil attached to the material surface. The material is then treated in an atmosphere of steam and carbon dioxide at 550- 600 deg.C for 5-30 min to form a blackened film. By this method stable blackened film grade is obtd. which is highly valuable in practical use.
