Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish efficient extraction of sulfur through withdrawal of a high sulfur desulfurizing liquid with the level of liquid storing section of the gas/ liquid separator at the top of a column for oxidizing H2S ion positioned slightly higher than a desulfurizing liquid withdrawing port provided on the circumference of the section.
CONSTITUTION: Gas containing H2S is fed to an absorption column 1 where H2S is absorbed through a counter current with an alkali absorbing liquid. The desulfurization liquid thus absorbing H2S is fed to an oxidation column. The absorbing liquid on which S7 separated floats is sent to a withdrawing device 11 from plural withdrawing ports 6 provided at a position slightly below the liquid level. The desulfurizing liquid separated from air with the withdrawing device 11 is sent to a filter through a manual valve 8 to separate S. Here, the amount of desulfurising liquid with less S to be circulated as shown by 5 to a column 1 from a liquid storing section 4 is controlled with a level detector 12 and a control valve 13 so that the liquid level at the withdrawing port 6 is invariably positioned slightly above the withdrawing port 6. With such an arrangement, the concentration of S conrained in the withdrawn liquid to be sent to the filter can be increased about 3 times as much as that in the conventional arrangement.
