Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the diffusion-welded product at good dimensional accuracy, by providing the welded body with dummy faying surfaces wider than the area of the faying surface, and by controlling the press force at the contact position in the dummy faying surfaces.
CONSTITUTION: The dummy faying surfaces 10' and 11' are installed in the side plate 10 and the core plate 11 by cutting work. The clearance 13 between the dummy faying surfaces 10' and 11' is settled as same as the previously specified creep deformation of the impeller 12, and the areas of dummy contact surfaces 10' and 11' are made satisfactorily wider than the area of the faying surface between the impeller 12 and the side plate 10. This side plate 10 together with the core plate 11 are set in the press jig; and the diffusion welding is performed at the press force of about 10 kg/cm2. Hereupon, the creep deformation rapidly proceeds until the dummy faying surfaces 10' and 11' make contact against each other, and the contact of the impeller 12 against the side plate 10 is firmly performed so that the diffusion welding proceeds surely. The creep deformation is controlled to a value equal to the previously specified clearance between the dummy faying surfaces 10' and 11', so that the dimension of the product in the direction of the press work becomes accurate.
