Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound having antibacterial actions in a high yield, by oxidizing the formyl group at the 6-position alone of an aldehyde selectively with a chlorite in the presence of sulfamic acid.
CONSTITUTION: One mole of an aldehyde of formula I: (R1 is lower alkyl group; X is tertiary amino group of formula II or III). is oxidized with an equimolar amount to 10 moles, preferably to 5 moles of a chlorite, e.g. sodium, potassium chlorites, etc, in the presence of sulfamic acid at 5W50°C to form a pyridopyrimidine carboxylic acid derivative of formula IV.
