Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable one unit to be used for multiple purposes and in multiple ways by setting the azimuth angle of a magnetic head according to the running speeds of the tape. CONSTITUTION:When a standard recording mode is set by an operation part 19, the signal from a command signal generator 20 causes a switch 28 to turn ON. A magnetic tape 3 then travels at a standard speed, but a magnetic head 27 records standard recording patterns on the tape 3 because an electronic switch circuit 25 is held open. Next, when a high density recording mode is set by the operation part 19, a switch 18b goes ON and the tape 3 travels at a high density recording speed and the circuit 25 closes. As a result, the traveling contact 25a is alternately contacted to fixed contats 25c, 25d by the pulses from a timing pulse generator 21 to alternately apply positive and negative DC voltages to the piezoelectric element 30 of a magnetic head apparatus 1, by which the azimuth of the head 27 is changed over within the range where the apparatus 1 and tape 3 do not cotact. Thereby, one unit of the apparatus may be used for multiple purposes and in multiple ways.
