Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a magnetic disc which is free from peeling of coating film and has no variations in recording and reproducing signals by dipping a precision- finished aluminum substrate in a heated concentrated nitric acid solution to provide an even and moderate roughness on the surface then forming a magnetic coating film.
CONSTITUTION: A precision-finished aluminum substrate is dipped for about 10 to 60 seconds in concentrated nitric acid of about 30 to 80°C in temperature and more than about 98% in concentration to make the mean surface roughness thereof about 0.01 to 0.02μmRa (values measured with Talystep meter), after which a magnetic coating film is coated to an even thickness, whereby the magnetic disc is provided.
