Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve strength of a Ti-V system alloy without deterioration in malleability, workability and weldability by adding Si thereto.
CONSTITUTION: The Ti-V-Si system alloy objective contains 26 to 45% V by weight and 0.2 to 15% Si. A Ti-V system alloy containing 26% or more of V, which normally consists of β-unit phases, has a comparatively small strength instead of excellent malleability, workability and weldability. With the addition of 0.2 to 15% Si thereto, the formation of a solid solution of Si in the β-phases improves the strength thereof. In addition, Si makes eutectoid in the β-phase to agedevelop, further improving the strength thereof.
