Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency and safety of handling lumbers by falling thereof onto the water surface within a semi-cubmergible barge with a adjustable waterline.
CONSTITUTION: A semi-submergible barge 1 with the water line adjustable through the control of balast water is prepared in which latice members and latice shaped faces are mounted to a float 2 with a balast tank comprising a frame-shaped float 2a and column-shaped floats 2b to 2e to form a bottom 1a and side walls 1b to 1e. The barge is sunk and an eye plate 4 thereon is combined with an eyplate 6 on a lumber carrier by a hinge 7. After bollards 9 and 8 are combined with a wirerope 10, the carrier 5 is tilted so that lumbers stacked fall onto the water surface within the barge 1. Then, the barge is separated from the carrier 5. A mobile side wall 1b serving as a door is closed with a winch in a mechanical room 11 and the balast water is released for floating. Thereafter, the barge is towerd to an unloading site.
