Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the channel width of an output buffer narrow, to increase current capacity, and to reduce the chip size by setting the threshold voltage of the output buffer part buit in a semiconductor substrate together with a logical operation part smaller than that of any other circuit.
CONSTITUTION: In order to make the logical operation part meet standard requirements of the current consumption and operation extent of the IC, absolute value |VT| of the threshold level is set around 0.6V. As for the output buffer part, on the other hand, |VT| is set around 0.3V. Consequently, the channel width of the transistor constituting the output buffer can be reduced to 56% of the conventional one. In addition, the area of the output buffer part depends mainly upon the channel width of the transistor. Further, the current consumption and operation extent are determined mainly by the logical operation part, so that bad influence upon various characteristics of the IC in itself can be eliminated by decreasing |VT| of the output buffer part.
