Abstract

PURPOSE: To manage with a small quantity of drainage for maintenance operation and heighten the reliability of drain pump, by providing between a prime mover and the drain pump a rotational frequency control mechanism which is shifted in at least two stages and by performing the maintenance operation at a second rota frequency.
CONSTITUTION: The drain pump 1 is located under water in a suction tank 2 and communicates with a discharge tank 5 through a discharge valve 3 and a check valve 4. A speed reducer 6 is connected to the prime mover 8 such as a Diesel engine or gasoline engine through the rotational frequency control mechanism 7 such as a variable speed fluid joint to drive the drain pump 1. The rotational frequency control mechanism 7 is shifted in at east two stages, namely, to a first rotational frequency for the effective work of the drain pump 1 or to the second rotational frequency, which is lower than the first rotational frequency and is so set that the discharge quantity is zero and the load on the prime mover is not less than the minimum degree. The maintenance operation of the drain pump 1 is performed at the second rotational frequency.
