Abstract

The hydrodynamic torque converter is connected and disconnected by filling or draining of working liquid. This torque converter is used for traction purposes and it can be used also for hydrodynamic braking. In latter case the torque converter is connected to a cooling circuit. The cooling circuit pipe (33) has an injector like contraction (35) at the point where this pipe joins the refilling pipe (36). An additional feed pipe is provided together with a displacement pump. The first refilling pipe (36) has a nonreturn valve which prevents return flow to the first filling pump (37). A converter draining pipe (18), cooling circuit pipe (31, 32, 33) and converter filling pipe (17) can form a closed cooling circuit on traction and braking operation.
