Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically perform outside diameter shaping and outside diameter changing of perform with high accuracy by providing the outside diameter non- contact measuring part and adjusting part for preform to a glass lathe. CONSTITUTION:The preform 1 which is supported to bearings 11, 12 of a glass lathe is revolved while being evenly heated with an oxyhydrogen burner 13 which is reciprocating at a constant feed speed and return speed. The variations in its outside diameter are measured by an outside diameter measuring part 20 in cooperation with the movement of the burner 13 and are fed back to an interbearing spacing adjusting mechanism 14 by way of a controller 21 to finely adjust the spacing between the bearings 11, 12 to so control these as to elongate or compress the preform 1 thereby automatically controlling the outside diameter of the preform 1.
