Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently remove harmful substance emulsified in waste water by feeding the substances into magnetic fluid having dissolving liquid for the substances as base and then magnetically removing the magnetic fluid from the waste water.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic fluid prepared by stably dispersing magnetic material such as microminiature particle ferrite or the like is base liquid of hydrocarbon such as kerosine or the like, ester oil, or halogenated hydrocarbon or the like is added and mixed to and with waste water containing for example, harmful substances such as oil and grease, surface-active agent or the like dissolved or emulsified. Since the substances are then dissolved in the magnetic fluid, this treated liquid is passed through a cylinder or the like having magnetically energizing means such as permanent magnet or the like provided around steel wool filled therein. Thus, it can efficiently remove and separate emulsified component of oil and grease, and surface- active agent or the like.
