Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform safe and poison-free treatment of sludge containing large amount of volatile mercury through absorption and solidification of sludge accumulated on the bottom of water with air cut off from outside.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge accumulated on the bottom of water is sucked up into a suction pipe 10 and inducted under pressure to a tightly closed tank 3 with air cut off from outside. The sludge is separated in the tank into water and poisonous sludge. The sludge is separated in the tank into water and poisonous sludge. The poisonous sludge accumulated on the bottom is fed into a pressure feed pipe 9 with a raking screw 14. While the sludge is passing through the pipe 9, a silicic soda solution is added thereto from an injection pipe 19. After the mixture is stirred up, a hardening agent is added thereto from an injection pipe 22 and then, stirred up again. With such an arrangement, the poisonous sludge is fast solidified being fed under pressure with a pump P8, and turned to a plastic matter. Thereafter, it is thrown away into the water with a discarding screw 8 as a solidified matter 18.
