Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove organic substance in a sewage efficiently by having it undergoing an ozone treatment as containing activated charcoal after it is adsorbed by the activated charcoal close to the saturation level.
CONSTITUTION: The amount of an activated charcoal used in the activated charcoal adsorption process is set at 2W10 times as large as the amount of COD to be removed while the adsorption time preferably at such that the absorption by the activated charcoal exceeds 50% of the saturation level, that is, 10W120min. A powdered form is desirable for the activated charcoal herein used. Then, in the ozone injection reaction process, the amount of ozone injected is preferably 0.1W1.0 (by weight) times as large as the amont of the activated charcoal added. The treatment time ranges from about 5 to 30min. Finally, the solid matter is separated from the liquid after treatments by the activated charcoal and the ozone. Such a combination of the activated charcoal and the ozone enables absorption and decomposition of organic pollutant effectively due to their synergetic effect.
