Abstract

PURPOSE:To replenish ink surely into the tank of carriage with a simple construction by detecting the presence or absence of the ink with the detector provided to an ink tank, moving the carriage to the ink replenishing position and supplying the ink from the main tank in the upper part from the tank. CONSTITUTION:A carraige 1 which carries and ink jet head 12 and an ink tank 13 is scanned in the right and left directions by a lead screw rod 4 and is movable from ordinary printing operation range up to ink replenishing position. A detector 27 which detects the presence or not of ink is provided in the ink tank 13 and the detection signal of ink absence therefrom causes a control unit 28 to control a motor 7 to revolve the rod 4 which in turn moves the carraige to the ink replenishing position, positioning the replenishing port 14 of the tank 13 under the drop feed port 17 of a base tank 15 provided in the upper part. And the ink is drop-fed into the replenishment port 4 through a draw-out pipe 16 and valve device 18. When the specified time having been determined with a timer 30 elapses after the signal has been outputted from the detector 27, the carraige 1 in the replenishment position is moved in the printing standby position by running the motor 7 backward.
