Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable recording of a predetermined record even after the detection of the consumption of ink, with effective utilization of the remaining ink, by detecting that the ink within an ink tank is consumed, discharging the ink by a purge command and stopping the recording operation in response to the purge command after a signal indicating that the ink is consumed is inputted. CONSTITUTION:When a microswitch 6 of a detector which detects that the ink is finished is closed, a light emitting element of an alarm 32 starts glimmering through a line 31 and a control unit 40, so that it can be found beforehand how much record can be recorded by the remaining ink. For example, the number of lines of a sheet of paper to be fed is counted. When a given number of lines is counted, the control unit 40 stops recording operation. Moreover, the light emitting element of the alarm 32 is changed to be kept lighting. when a purge command 50 is sent out, in the case where the switch 6 is opened, a purge signal is sent to the control unit 40 via a line 46, thereby to carry out purging operation. However, when the switch 6 is closed, the purge signal is not sent to the control unit 40 through the line 46, but a stop signal is sent to the control unit 40 through a line 45, so that recording operation is stopped.
