Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to easily detect the flaw, which is formed in the radial direction in the nozzle corner of a saddle portion of a test piece, by placing an ultrasonic locating device of variable angle in that saddle portion so that an ultrasonic beam may be projected normally to the defect.
CONSTITUTION: A rail 5 is mounted on a nozzle 1 so as to carry the body of a drive portion. The drive is accomplished in the direction of Y so that an ultrasonic locating device 2 of variable angle is placed in the flaw detecting position in the circumferential direction. Then, the drive is accomplished in the direction of X so that the locating device 2 is placed at the curvature starting position, i.e., the saddle starting position of the nozzle. When the variable angle θ of the locating device 2 is driven to accomplish the scanning operation in a sector form, an ultrasonic beam 7 is scanned in the radial section so that an ultrasonic beam contacting the inner diameter 8 of the nozzle 1 can be projected. As a result, the beam can be projected in a normal direction to the plane of the flaw 9 which is formed in the radial direction inside of the nozzle. The ultrasonic waves are reflected by the inner side 8 of the nozzle and are displayed by display circits 32 and 33. If, under this condition, the beam 7 is scanned in the shape of a sector, the beam impinges upon the flaw 9 so that display is effected as in the form a defective echo 35
