Abstract

PURPOSE: To give colorless metallic luster to the surface of Ti or a Ti alloy on which a colored film has been formed by heating to high temp., by heating the Ti or alloy to above 500°C in a vacuum or a high purity atmsophere of an inert gas.
CONSTITUTION: When Ti or a Ti alloy is heated to above 300C in an oxidizing atmosphere, a characteristic colored film is formed on the surface. The Ti or alloy colored by the oxidation is heated to above 500°C in a vacuum or a high purity atmosphere of an inert gas such as Ar, whereby oxygen in the film diffuses into the Ti or alloy, lowering the surface oxygen concn. Thus, the colored surface becomes coloress and metallic luster appears.
