Abstract
PURPOSE: To secure the display of at least two colors of different hues by displaying the mixed color of the color of the mixture liquid crystal containing the 2-color coloring matter and the color of the colored reflecting plate when no voltage is applied and displaying the color of the reflecting plate only when the voltage is applied respectively.
CONSTITUTION: Mixture liquid crystal 8 of the nematic liquid crystal and the chiral material is put between a pair of opposing substrate 11 and 12, and colored reflecting plate 5 is provided at the substrate 12. The light entered the substrate is absorbed to 2-color coloring matter 7 contained in the liquid crystal layer, and the light passed through the liquid crystal layer is reflected by plate 5. In this case the light receives the selective absorption of an optional wavelength which is peculiar to the reflecting plate, and accordingly the mixture of the color of coloring matter 7 and the color of plate 5 is displayed at the display side.
