Abstract

PURPOSE: An economical low alloy steel which is used for chemical reactors, etc. used at high temperatures and contains a specific alloy element, having a high temperature strength even for thick steel plate and also showing excellent toughness even after undergoing a heat history such as cold processing, welding, etc..
CONSTITUTION: The low alloy steel for high temperature structures composed of 0.10 to 0.20% C, 0.10 to 0.50% Si, 1.1 to 1.8% Mn, 0.10 to 0.30% Cu, 0.10 to 0.30% Mo, 0.01 to 0.06% V, 0.03 to 0,10% Al, 0.01 or less S, and Fe, showing the value of the equation 1, relating to Al, S, C, and V, to be more than 1.2. The composition mentioned avove may contain 0.1 to 0.3% Ni. And, the addition of Nb to the composition results in the fining of crystal particles, thus enhancing impact resistance and the yielding point at high temperatures. The amount of Nb is 0.05% and, in this case, the value of the equation II is 1.2 or more
