Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the number of required electrodes of the a.c. type surface electrometer and achieve the improvement in its sensitivity by making combination use of a vibrating electrode as a detecting electrode and vibrating the vibrating electrode in the direction parallel to the surface being measured thereby producing fluctuating electric fields.
CONSTITUTION: As a tuning fork 6 is excited via tuning fork driving coil 7, an electrode 5 vibrates in the direction parallel to the body to be measured 2. This turns out that the effective opposing area of the electrode 5 and aperture 3, i.e., the dielectric flux arriving at the electrode 5 from the body to be measured 2 through an aperture 3, changes with time, as a result of which displacement current (i) flows through resistance R. Since the voltage e=iR produced in the resistance R is proportional to the surface potential V to be measured, this may be used as a quantity indicating the surface potential, if necessary, by amplifying the same with an amplifier 8
