Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a gas spring having a means to bring the resilience characteristics close to the ideal even with a temperature change by compensating the resilience characteristics variation due to the temperature change with the adjustment of piston rod position. CONSTITUTION:This gas spring which can be used, for example, as a back door stay of a hatch back type automobile comprises a cylinder 4 filled with a working fluid and a pressurized gas which forces a piston rod 10 to extend from a cylinder end 4a, threads 10a and 10b having same pitch and direction being formed on both ends of said piston rod 10, a stopper 16 being screwed on to said thread 10 a and an attaching lug being screwed on to said thread 10b, a rotation of the piston rod 10 changing relative axial position of the piston 9 to the cylinder 4 while maintaining ralative position between the stopper 16 and the attaching lug 16 for achieving the desired purpose.
