Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the gap between two objects by making the electrostatic capacity of a pair of electrodes mounted on the opposing faces of two objects parallel with one of two oscillators of the same frequency and measuring the signal period of the differential frequencies of both oscillators.
CONSTITUTION: The electrostatic capacity 1 of the electrodes opposed to the two objects to be measured of gap is connected in parallel with the LC oscillator 2 of a capacity C and the outputs of the two oscillators, i.e., said oscillator and a local oscillator 4 for conversion of the same frequency as that of the oscillator 2 alone are applied to a modulator 3. When the differential frequency (f) of both oscillators is drawn from a low-pass filter 5, is amplified in an amplifier 6 and the period is counted with a period counter 7, then the numerical value proportional to the gap is obtained.
