PURPOSE:To enable extremely minute light power to be measured as well without any error by making use of the measuring light having been so modulated as to enable the characteristics of a mechanical light chopper and a synchronous detector to be fully exhibited or the a.c. signal so converted therefrom. CONSTITUTION:The reference signal used in a synchronous detector 5 is drawn out from the sigbal under a.c. amplification and it is for this purpose that the output of an a.c. amplifier 71 is branched in two ways. The output having undergone synchronous detection in the synchronous detector 5 by using the signal having no phase difference in this way is invariable in indication value and is effective as a minute light power meter. The purpose of insertion of an amplitude limiter 8 lies in taking the feasibility of the use of a d.c. watmeter 6 even if it is a true number display into consideration. Namely, as the measuring light becomes smaller, the output voltage becomes smaller in proportion to the square of the reduction in the measuring light. Hence, in the case of true number display, the synchronous detection output proportional to the input signal may be obtained by passing the same through the amplitude limiter of a wide dynamic range.
