Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus for detecting double-stacking of sheet material, in which a pair of jet nozzles and ultrasonic wave transmitting and receiving means are disposed in the passage for transporting steel plates or the like, so as to detect double-stacking of the plate material by the use of attenuation of the ultrasonic wave.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of jet nozzles 1, 2 are disposed on opposite sides of a plate material transporting passage, and liquid is ejected from these nozzles 1, 2 in the direction intersecting the passage. An oscillator 3 constituting an ultrasonic transmitter is provided in one nozzle 1 located downward, whereas another oscillator 4 constituting an ultrasonic receiver is provided in the other nozzle 2 located upward. Ultrasonic waves transmitted from oscillator 3 are passed through water columns 9, 10 permitting transmission of ultrasonic waves therein, and transmitted to the upper receiving oscillator 4, from which output is supplied to a suitable gauge via gignl cable 8. With such an arrangement, if steel plates 11 is transported in double- stacked condition, it is detected readily since ultrasonic waves are attenuated by the layer of air formed between the two steel plates
