Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible even the searching of fault points where detection of reflection light is infeasible by using the transmission signal in which repetitive period is constant as the distance target signal for fault point searching.
CONSTITUTION: Pulse signals P1, P2 in which repetitive period or mean repetitive period within a suitable time is constant are inputted from the left and right into an optical transmission line 3 through light transmitters 1, 7, directional couplers 2, 4 and the pulse signals P'1, P'2, outputted from the right and left are inputted to counting circuits 6, 9 through the directional couplers 4, 2 and light receivers 5, 8. From the difference in the count values of both counting circuits 6, 9, the distance l up to the fault point is obtained. Thereby, the occurrence of such a fault point of the optical fiber transmission line in which the detection of reflected light is infeasible may be normally supervised and the searching may be completed simultaneously with the occurrence of the fault
