Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure losses of an optical fiber to be measured and connection losses at the same time, by interposing and connecting the optical fiber to be measured between standard optical fibers and passing an optical signal from an imitative transmission system to an imitative reception system. CONSTITUTION:A standard optical fiber 6A is connected to a light source 2 and a standard optical fiber 6B is connected to a photodetector 4 and then, an optical fiber to be measured 7 is connected between both optical fibers 6A and 6B. Both fibers 6A, 6B are optical fibers of the same specification obtained by dividing a single optical fiber into sections, and the fibers having the standard value at the time of constituting a desired transmission passage are used. A prescribed optical signal is given from the light source 2 of an imitative transmission system to the photodetector 4 of an imitative reception system and a photodetecting level at the time of the light transmission is detected by a level detector 5. The photodetecting level is the value including not only losses of each optical fiber 6A, 6B and 7 but also connection losses.
