Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible low voltage controlling of image formation and achieve the compactness of the apparatus by applying a constant voltage continuously to a counter electrode and controlling control electrodes according to image information thereby drawing images on a printing medium. CONSTITUTION:An ink liquid layer 7 is grounded and a high voltage is continously applied between the ink liquid layer 7 and counter electrode 6 from a power source device 8. With this applied voltage being kept at about the extent of not allowing ink liquid 7 to rise in through-holes 2, pulse voltages are applied to control electrodes 3, then the electric fields by the counter electrode 6 and control electrodes 3 act upon the through-holes 2. This causes the ink liquid rise from the ink liquid layer 7 into the through-holes 2 until it slightly protrudes above the control electrodes 3. The electric fields from the counter electrode 6 concentrate to said ink protruding portions, then the ink flies from the through-holes 2 and deposits on a printing medium 5, whereby images are drawn. Hence, the voltages to be applied to the control electrodes 3 can be low. Namely, low voltage controlling of image formation is made possible.
