Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a modified phenolic resin giving a printed circuit board having excellent dimensional stability, punchability, mechanical strength, etc., by reacting a compound having conjugated double bonds with isopropenylphenol oligomer.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 10-100 parts by weight of a oompound having conjugated double bonds, e.g. liquid polybutadiene, etc., is reacted with (B) 10-100 parts by weight of p-isopropenylphenol dimer or oligomer I or II, and (C) 100 parts by weight of a phenol compound, in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. sulfuric acid, etc.. The product is reacted with formaldehyde in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. sodium hydroxide, etc.. The solution of the reaction product is dehydrated under reduced pressure to give a laminating varnish
