Abstract
A thermosetting laminating resin is prepared by reacting acetone and formaldehyde in alkaline solution to form a monomeric monomethyl derivative of acetone, reacting this derivative under alkaline conditions with phenol or cresol or a mixture of phenol and cresol, and then reacting with addition formaldehyde also under alkaline conditions. In the example, sodium carbonate is used to catalyse each stage of the reaction, and the final product is dissolved in methanol to give a laminating varnish. Specification 948,776 is referred to.
