PURPOSE:To adjust the pulse width-luminance characteristic to an optimum state with correcting this characteristic simply by adjusting the pulse width of three output signals of a signal holding circuit independently in a pulse generator circuit. CONSTITUTION:Output signals Ai, Bi and Ci of a three-bit memory element linked with electrode Xi of signal holding circuit 10 are supplied to a circuit constituting a display signal pulse generator circuit, and are outputted to electrode Xi of X row electrode driving circuit 12 through pulse generator circuit 19, AND circuits 20 to 22 and NOR circuit 23. Here, circuit 19 consists of monostable multivibrators MM1, MM2 and MM3, variable resistances VR1, VR2 and VR3, and capacitors C1, C2 and C3, and can adjust pulse width TA, tB and tC of signals A, B and C independently. As a result, the characteristic irregularity of thin-film EL and the pulse width-luminance characteristic dependent upon the voltage, the amplitude and the frequency of the applied pulse can be corrected simply and adjusted to an optimum state.
