Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a discharge lamp, in which its inner glass tube having therein a cathode at its bottom is shaped in the form having a cross section of an elongated circle, and electrodes are disposed in a particular arrangement, whereby brightness of the lamp can be made uniform over the entire surface of the same.
CONSTITUTION: Filament cathode 5 and rod-like anodes 6, 6' are supported respectively by stem 4 and its flare portion in a container of double-glass bulb, which consists of outer glass bulb 1 (for instance, 20cm long and having a maximum tube diameter of 8cm) and a flat inner glass bulb 2 (for instance, 17cm long and having a major diameter of 4cm and minor diameter of 1.5cm). The anodes 6, 6' are disposed on opposite sides of the bulb 2, and fluorescent material 3 is applied on the inner and the outer surfaces of the bulbs 1 and 2, respectively. When the lamp arranged as above is lighted through a circuit consisting of stabilizer 8, rectifier 9, glow lamp 10 and current balancer 11, current is stabilized since discharge passages are fixed and brightness of the lamp can be made uniform over the entire surface thereof, although discharge plasma (shown by the hatching in the drawing) is not uniform within the space of the lamp. In the above arrangement, it is also possible to shape the inner glass bulb 2 in such a form having an elliptic or rectangular cross section
