Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a discharge lamp, which is afforded with uniform brightness over the entire surface thereof, by selecting the thickness of film of fluorescent material, coated on the inner surface of outer bulb of the discharge lamp which has a plurality of discharge paths in its double-glass bulb, within a predetermined range.
CONSTITUTION: In a discharge lamp, in which fluorescent material 3 is coated on the surface of its double-glass bulb consisting of outer glass bulb 1 (for instance, 20cm long and having a maximum diameter of 8cm) and inner glass tube 2 (for instance, 17cm long and having a major diameter of 4cm and a minor diameter of 1.5cm), and cathode 5 of filament and a plurality of anodes 6, 6' are supported by stem 4 and flare, thereby forming a plurality of discharge paths; thickness of the film of fluorescent material 3 coated on the surface of said outer glass bulb 1 is selected within the range of 1W50mg/cm2. By thus selecting the thickness of film of fluorescent material 3 in the above range, brightness of the lamp can be made uniform virtually over the entire surface thereof, and lowering of quantity of light can be prevented.
