Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the subject device wherein a discharge gap is used as a protecting device, whereby any abnormal voltage caused by the opening trouble of a secondary circuit of the current transformer is suppressed and simultaneously the secondary circuit of the current transformer is short-circuited accurately protect the current transformer.
CONSTITUTION: The fitting terminals 30 and 31 of the protecting device are connected to the secondry terminals 4 and 5 of the current transformer. By opening the secondary circuit an abnormal voltage is generated between the terminals 4 and 5. This voltage is discharged in the discharge gap formed by a movable electrode 13 and a fixed electrode 14. By the discharge energy generated upon this occasion the temperature of a solder 22 joining the electrode 13 and a metal wire 15 to the movable electrode 13 is increased to release the fixture of the metal wire 15. For this reason, a coil spring 16 which has accumulated energy by the tension of the metal wire 15 tends to be restored to its original position. Hence, the electrode 13 is moved toward the electrode 14, and both electrodes are brought into contact with each other to short-circuit the terminals 4 and 5 by the protecting device
