Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain pyrolytic graphite lump having wide vertical plane against to c plane of pyrolytic graphite as an unified structure, by introducing hydrocarbon in a non-oxidative atmosphere onto graphite separating substarates having substrate planes and multiple graphite thin plates extending from the substrate planes in its vertical direction, and heating them. CONSTITUTION:Multiple pyrolytic graphite thin plate (thickness 1mm.) 2 are arranged on graphite plate 1 to make a graphite separating substrate. Substrates 2 are then introduced in a pyrolytic graphite forming furnace, heated to ca. 2,000 deg.C, and H2 which contains 1-40% of propane is introduced into the furnace to separate pyrolytic graphite on graphite plate 1 and thin plates 2. After the separation is ended, introduction of gas is stopped and cooled to repeal a part of separated layers 3 from graphite plate 1. Then, it is cut along lines A and B in the drawing to make unified structural pyrolytic graphite lump of separated material having separating direction vertical to c plane of graphite plate 1. When distance of multiple graphite plate 1 is and l length of plate 1 is h, a graphite separating substrate having l<=2.5h is structured.
