Abstract
PURPOSE: To cheaply obtain a damping material with high damping capacity in large quantities by sensitizing the surface of steel after heat treatment followed by crystal boundary etching and coating of a resin film.
CONSTITUTION: An austenitic stainless steel strip from uncoiler 1 is passed through a pretreating process consisting of degreasing vessel 2, washing vessel 3 and dryer 4, and it reaches heat treating furnace 6, where the strip surface is sensitized by high frequency heating or the like. The strip is then cooled with cold air cooler 7 in an inert gas atmosphere and subjected to crystal boundary etching in a boiling aq. soln. contg. copper sulfate and sulfuric acid for several min to form fine cavities. Resin film 14 is press. bonded to the strip with roll 3, and the strip reaches coiler 18 through hardening furnace 15, cooler 16, etc. Owing to innumerable fine cavities vibration is prevented, and the resin film prevents sound waves from escaping out. Thus, a damping material with high damping capacity is cheaply obtd. in large quantities.
