Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain metallurgical coke having improved hot strength at the bottom of the blast furnace, by spraying heavy oils on red-hot coke in the coking step.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed coal for formed coke having an AP index ≥ 80% and an average reflectance Ro ≥ 1.4 and the total expansion degree ≤ 5% (10°C/min) is coked. Heavy oils are sprayed on the resulting red-hot coke in the quenching step.
