Abstract

PURPOSE:To carbonize briquette coal at a specific heating pattern to maximize the binding strength of the briquette coal, and to increase the strength and the carbon- content of the coke, by using a vertical coke oven having three or more tuyeres, and setting the temperature of gas introduced to the upper two tuyeres within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:To attain the suitable heating pattern for the briquette coal (Fig. 1; the hatched part shows the optimum heating pattern), the vertical coking oven is provided with at least three tuyeres at the zones 1, 3 and 4. The temperature of the gas introduced to the upper two tuyeres is adjusted within 300-800 deg.C. The relative distances between the oven top and the high temperature tuyere 1, between the top to the tuyere 4, between the top and the tuyere 2, and between the top and the tuyere 3, are 100, 0-30, 40-60 and 60-80, respectively. The briquette can be heated in high efficiency, and the carbonization time is shortened. The initial heating rate can be made sufficiently high, which improves the carbon-content and the strength of the coke, and increases the yield.
